A Huge Thank You to Galliford Try for Transforming Our Digital Log Cabin at Heathlands
We’re absolutely thrilled to share that our wheelchair-accessible Digital Log Cabin at Heathlands has had a fantastic makeover—thanks entirely to the generous support of Galliford Try. And what a difference it’s already making!
Heathlands, proudly run by The Laurie Brewis Trust, is a dedicated service that supports adults with autism, acquired brain injuries, mental and physical disabilities, mental health needs, and age related conditions. The Log Cabin is one of our most cherished spaces—a place where people can get creative, and grow in confidence.
Now, after its refurbishment, the cabin feels open, brighter, more welcoming, and more inspiring than ever. offering an environment where individuals can learn, connect, explore digital skills, and build confidence through meaningful activities.
It’s not just a lovely space—it’s our digital hub through our Living Better Together Digital and Outreach Projects. From here, we deliver much-needed digital sessions and outreach support across the rural communities of Cumberland and beyond, reaching people who often face barriers to connection, learning, and support. This upgrade means we can do even more for those who need us most.
We were delighted to welcome Rachael Land from Galliford Try to officially open the newly refurbished cabin. Having her with us made the day even more special, and it was wonderful to show her the life-changing impact this space will continue to have.
A huge, heartfelt thank you from The Laurie Brewis Trust, Heathlands, and everyone who uses our services: thank you, Galliford Try—and thank you, Rachael.
Your kindness has transformed a space that truly changes lives, and its impact will be felt for many years to come.

It's Suicide Prevention Day today and I wanted to share the amazing work created by our Better Together Monday Craft group and local textile artist Helen Walsh at Harraby Community Centre.
"It's a 'comfort blanket' made of upcycled fabrics and decorated with a tree covered in leaves and flowers made by the group and it has a soft fleecy back". Which has been made to commemorate the Baton of Hope on Sunday 7th September. The blanket now lives in the community centre, "ready to give a hug to anyone who needs it".

It was fab to show Rachael Land from Galliford Try around our site to give her a real sense of what The Laurie Brewis Trust offers to the Heathlands community, Carlisle and it's wider rural communities.
This funding will go along way to open up the digital cabin and expand its uses in continuing to bridge the gaps of unmet social and support needs both digitally and physically.

Improvement of Heathlands site 2020
We have some exciting and ambitious plans for the Heathlands site over the next few years.
Early in 2020 we hope to secure planning permission and start phase one of the site development. Phase one includes the refurbishment of a large learning area, demolition of dilapidated buildings and creation of a new carpark.
The health, safety and wellbeing of everyone visiting the Heathlands site is of utmost importance and we will be working closely with our contractors to keep everyone safe while the development is underway.
